The Best Naruto Games on Mobile

The Naruto franchise has spawned an immense amount of video games over the years. Ranging from 3d arena fighting games to MMORPGs the franchise has something for everyone.

The latest game in the series, Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, brought enhanced combat with more content and 80 playable characters to the mobile platform.

1. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4

The first of the Naruto games to leap mobile devices, the mobile edition of Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is a gorgeous game with spectacular fluidity and animation. Characters are rendered in a manner that is instantly recognizable and full of the same passion for the series as the animated shows.

The gameplay is a little on the simplistic side, with one button for melee strikes, another for throwing projectiles, a jump/dash button, and a ‘chakra’ button that modifies attacks with ninja magic and unleashes each character’s signature jutsu. But the combat is fun, with each character having a unique set of moves that they can use to crush their opponents.

There are a lot of modes to keep players busy, including the story mode that briskly retells the story of Naruto Shippuden from its beginning through the end of the main four arcs and into the birth of Boruto. The bundled DLC, Road to Boruto, adds a good three hours of new story into the mix as well.

2. Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive

As the name suggests, Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive focuses on the idea of four-man teams. The characters rarely travel alone in the anime or manga, so a game that highlights this aspect of the story should be fun.

In this action RPG, players control Naruto, Rock Lee, Sakura Haruno, and Kakashi Hatake as they battle across open 3D environments. Enemies attack in groups and the player can assign scrolls to increase the team’s health and attack power.

If you can get a group of friends together and play in the story mode, Kizuna Drive is fairly enjoyable, thanks to an original story and a multiplayer combat system that feels faster than most Monster Hunter clones. However, the game can feel stale if you play solo, as the A.I. often fails to react in time and you can be left watching your teammate strike the air 20 feet behind a foe as they fight for their lives.

3. Naruto Shippuden: CyberConnect2 Storm 3

The latest iteration in the STORM series is built around Naruto and his son Boruto. It offers simplified fighting that is easy for beginners to pick up and yet satisfying for hardcore fans of the show.

The game offers almost all of the main arcs of the anime in its Story Mode, which features voiced cutscenes to guide you along. There’s even a Special Story mode that follows the adventures of Boruto in the timeline from this series, adding another dimension to the narrative.

This is the most complete Naruto experience for mobile devices, featuring beautiful environments and pivotal fights. It’s not without its faults, however. Many of the characters’ moves are very similar to each other, so it’s difficult to tell who you’re playing unless they’re a particularly iconic character like Kiba and his trusty pooch Akamaru or Raikage Ay and her shark-shaped water bombs. Fortunately, there are plenty of other ways to distinguish your character.

4. Naruto Online Mobile

Embark on the Naruto anime story in this free-to-play browser-based MMORPG officially licensed by Bandai. Create a character from five distinct classes and recruit characters from the anime’s history to form a team of ninjas. Featuring characters voiced by their original actors and a turn-based combo combat system, this game is packed with Naruto action.

The shinobi world of the Naruto series is complex, with an incredibly fleshed-out history and well-developed characters with interweaving relationships. Unfortunately, Ninja Storm Connections does a disservice to this rich world with its dull open world and truncated plot arcs. The game’s ‘History Mode’ parses the main story moments of the original and Shippuden series into a half-baked flashback, while its Special Story mode is just boring. Adding more side missions and more variety to the story would have made this game worth playing.
